Will FTM 2017 Be Released Today?

Post date: Apr 4, 2017 3:23:56 PM

As you probably recall, the original release date for FTM 2017 had been Friday 31 March. That date came and went without a word or a release. We head on 1 April that there were still problems with the latest build of the software, and that the release could be either later that evening, or on Monday 3 April. Next we learned on Sunday 2 April, that the new release date would actually be on Tuesday 4 April. So here we are. Is today going to be the day?

Well, Software MacKiev finished "stress tests" for FamilySync early this morning, and they have called for more "beta testing" for the latest build of Family Tree Maker 2017 (FTM 2017) - see update below. There is nothing more exciting than waiting until the last minute (or after the release date) before testing new software!

UPDATE - 11:30 PM UTAH TIME - APRIL 3

TESTING UPDATE

.

It's 1:30 am in Boston and we've just wrapped up stress tests for FamilySync on the Ancestry servers to complete tests that we were not able to finish last Friday. We will get an analysis back from Ancestry sometime in the morning.

.

Meanwhile we've called up an additional 500 beta testers from our pool of 4500+ for more testing. They'll help further validate the fixes made over the weekend by testing on computers that haven't had FTM 2017 builds on them.

.

I have to say I am absolutely amazed at the number of users who have stepped forward to offer their help in testing. In no other community on earth would so many volunteers so eager to make the waters safe for the rest of you.

.

I will post again tomorrow when we have Ancestry and beta test results.

The above update doesn't sound particularly promising for the release of FTM today, and judging by past experience "today" will really mean "tomorrow" for the fast majority of the world anyway. We may be looking at yet another delay in the release of FTM 2017, and if not, I wouldn't be surprised if the version that is released today is full of bugs (which could cause damage to your tree). I would be very cautious about using FTM 2017 if it is released today.
