DNA Test Reveals Adoption

DNA testing can be an invaluable tool, when used properly, for genealogical purposes. Additionally, they can tell you interesting things about your ethnicity. Occasionally, however, they can also uncover some significant, and sometimes uncomfortable, surprises.

I recently came across an article (see below) about a man who began down the road to discovering that his father had been adopted after his own daughter had taken a DNA test with 23andme.

The article quotes Andy Kill, a spokesperson for 23andme, who said that "based on a survey question, the company estimates that about 5-6% of everyone who takes their test are adoptees."

Yes, these tests can even help adoptees find their birth families.
