AncestryDNA's New and Improved DNA Matching

Post date: Mar 8, 2015 9:38:08 PM

Ancestry claim to have recently reworked their DNA matching algorithm to improve the way in which matches are determined, creating new ways to identify genetic relationships. Ancestry claim that their DNA matches will be far more accurate, with far fewer low confidence matches.

"By having over ½ million DNA samples and well-documented family trees, the AncestryDNA science team has innovated new and better ways to identify relationships by comparing DNA between AncestryDNA members.

"What this means for you:

  • More accurate – Each of your DNA matches will be more accurate and more likely to be related to you. You can feel confident that you share a recent ancestor (up to 5-10 generations)
  • Less is more – Because DNA matching is more accurate, people who you matched before will no longer be in your list. So, you'll see less matches, but each of the ones you have will be more likely to result in a new family discovery.
  • New things to come – This breakthrough in DNA matching lays a foundation for new DNA features, including the new DNA Circles feature."
